About us

SRV (SR Valuation Inc.) operates at the intersection of innovation, economics, and risk modeling. Our mission is to bring structure, transparency, and repeatability to startup valuation—making early-stage capital markets more efficient and accountable.

We support founders, investors, and advisors by providing realistic, data-grounded valuations that reflect how comparable companies have been funded over time. This fact-based approach enhances trust on both sides of the investment table and strengthens long-term decision-making.

Our approach

At the core of SRV’s methodology is the Backward Valuation Method™ (BVM)—a proprietary framework that models startup value based on historical funding data and market behavior. Originally developed by Sylvain Roy and field-tested since 2016, BVM has evolved into a scalable, decision-support tool for early-stage funding strategies.

SRV delivers this capability as a structured service, combining benchmarking logic with economic context to deliver valuations that are not only fast—but defensible.

Leadership

Sylvain Roy, President and CEO of SRV, is a corporate lawyer and the managing partner of SRA, SRV’s parent firm. With over 25 years of experience in IP transactions, patent brokering, valuation, licensing, and innovation strategy, he has advised startups, scale-ups, public research institutions (including CERN and EPFL), and investment firms across Canada, Europe, and Asia.  Sylvain is a member of the Quebec Bar and the Licensing Executives Society (LES). 

Sylvain is a frequent speaker on valuation, trade secrets and AI.  He is lecturer at the IP Business Academy - CEIPI (Center for International Intellectual Property Studies - University of Strasbourg).
